Walking up to the Avalon Cosy Hotel Paris on Rue de Dunkerque, you immediately get that “this feels right” vibe. It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard — the kind of hotel where the staff actually remembers your name after day one. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance that makes you want to settle in with a book, and honestly, that sets the tone for everything else here.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about the 10th arrondissement — you’re in real Paris, not tourist Paris. The Gare du Nord is literally a few minutes’ walk away, which means you can hop on the RER straight from Charles de Gaulle without dealing with taxi drama. But more importantly, you’re surrounded by actual Parisians going about their daily lives. There’s a fantastic boulangerie right around the corner where locals queue up every morning, and the Canal Saint-Martin (perfect for evening strolls with your dog, by the way) is just a pleasant ten-minute walk south.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what you’d hope for — clean lines, comfortable bed, and that perfect balance between modern amenities and Parisian character. The windows actually open (you know how rare that’s becoming), and the air conditioning works without sounding like a freight train. What really impressed me was the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains, enough outlets near the bed, and a bathroom that doesn’t require contortionist skills to navigate.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast situation here is actually pretty impressive. They’ve got this buffet setup that covers all the bases — continental classics, but also vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options that don’t feel like afterthoughts. I mean, finding decent gluten-free bread in Paris can be a challenge, but they’ve sorted it out. The coffee is proper French coffee, not that watery hotel stuff, and if you’re rushing to catch a train, they’ll pack breakfast to go without making you feel like you’re asking for a huge favor.

What really makes this place work is how genuinely pet-friendly they are — and I don’t just mean they tolerate your dog. The staff actually seems to enjoy having furry guests around, and there’s no weird attitude or excessive fees. Couples particularly seem to appreciate the location (I overheard the front desk mentioning they get lots of positive feedback about it), probably because you can easily walk to Montmartre for sunset views or catch the metro to anywhere else in the city. The parking situation is sorted if you’re driving, though honestly, you won’t need a car once you’re here.
