Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden
First Impressions
Walking into Hampton Inn Madison Square Garden, you immediately get that “this is exactly where I need to be” feeling. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe without being stuffy, and honestly, the staff actually seems happy to see you — which isn’t always a given in New York. What struck me right away was how quiet it felt inside, despite being right in the thick of everything on West 31st Street. You know what? That’s probably because they’ve figured out how to soundproof properly, which becomes crucial when you’re trying to sleep in Manhattan.
Location That Actually Makes Sense
This three-star hotel sits in Chelsea, and I mean, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to be close to everything without paying Midtown prices. Madison Square Garden is literally a few blocks away — I walked there in about five minutes for a concert. Penn Station is right there too, which makes getting to and from the airports way less stressful. The area has this nice mix of locals and tourists, so you’ll find decent coffee shops and places to grab a quick bite that aren’t total tourist traps. Couples seem to really love staying here, and I can see why — there’s something romantic about being able to walk to so many iconic spots without dealing with crazy subway transfers.
The Room Experience
My room was on the eighth floor, and honestly, it was exactly what I hoped for — clean, comfortable, and surprisingly spacious for New York standards. The bed was genuinely comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), which explains why this place gets such high marks for sleep quality. The bathroom was modern and well-lit, with good water pressure — small details that matter when you’re exploring the city all day. There’s a decent-sized desk if you need to get some work done, and the WiFi actually works properly throughout the space.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is more extensive than I expected — they do this continental and American buffet setup that actually has variety. You can grab something quick if you’re rushing off to catch a Broadway show matinee, or sit down for a proper meal with eggs and bacon. The breakfast-to-go option is clutch if you’re planning an early morning in Central Park or want to eat while walking to the High Line. The coffee is decent hotel coffee, nothing fancy, but it’ll definitely wake you up. I appreciated that they keep it running until a reasonable hour, so you’re not scrambling to get downstairs by 9 AM.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is that it delivers on the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not. The location score of 9.3 isn’t just marketing fluff — you really can walk to most places you want to see, and when you can’t, transportation is right there. Parking is available if you’re driving (though honestly, I wouldn’t recommend bringing a car to this part of Manhattan), and the whole operation just runs smoothly. It’s the kind of place where you check in, drop your bags, and head out to explore without worrying about whether your room will be ready or if the front desk will lose your reservation.
Pet allowed hotels blend cozy lobbies, fenced garden spaces, and staff who remember your dog’s name by checkout.

The location is great, you can go walking to Times Square and many other places. Metro station and places to eat very near.

It was perfect for a one night stay, even 2 or 3 nights. But only for 1 or 2 people. It was too small for any more.

Excellent, professional, and friendly desk staff. We were touring FIT and the hotel kept our luggage for us after checkout so we didn't have to worry about it. Great location for touring FIT. Close access to the trains. Walkable to Hamburger America. Nice breakfast and seating area, even with a lot of people in there.
Jocelyn
Good, central location and close to the 34th street subway station. From check-in, every employee we encountered was very nice which is a rarity in NYC. The room was clean and the breakfast was a nice selection.

The hotel is in a good location - close to the subway, Penn Station, and you can walk to many attractions (including Times Square, Empire State Building). Very good location for sightseeing in Manhattan. The rooms are rather clean, but they are cleaned every other day.
