First Impressions
Walking into Mercure Paris Gare de l’Est, you immediately notice how they’ve managed to create this calm bubble right in the middle of one of Paris’s busiest transport hubs. The lobby has that polished Mercure feel — not trying too hard to be boutique, but definitely a step up from your average chain hotel. What struck me most was how quiet it felt inside, considering you’re literally steps away from Gare de l’Est station. The staff here genuinely seem to get that travelers arrive at all hours and in various states of jet lag, so there’s this refreshingly patient vibe at check-in.
Location That Actually Works
Honestly, this location is pretty brilliant if you know Paris at all. Sure, the 10th arrondissement isn’t the postcard-perfect area tourists usually picture, but that’s exactly why it works so well. You’re a quick metro ride to anywhere you want to go — Montmartre, the Marais, even down to the Latin Quarter. The couples rating of 8.9 makes total sense because you can actually walk to some fantastic dinner spots without fighting tourist crowds. There’s this great little wine bar about three blocks away that locals frequent, and the morning market on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis is worth getting up early for.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was what I’d call “smart standard” — nothing groundbreaking, but everything worked exactly as it should. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the soundproofing impressed me given how close we are to major train lines. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure and those little touches that show someone actually thought about the guest experience. What I appreciated most was the workspace setup — if you need to catch up on emails or plan your day, there’s actually room to spread out a bit.
Breakfast and Practical Matters
The breakfast buffet here is solid without being spectacular — think quality continental options with some French touches that remind you where you are. The coffee is actually good (not always a given in hotel breakfast setups), and they keep the pastries fresh throughout the morning service. I mean, you’re in Paris, so you’ll probably want to grab a proper croissant from a local boulangerie at some point, but this definitely gets the job done when you need fuel before a day of sightseeing. The restaurant area has decent natural light, which makes morning planning sessions more pleasant than you’d expect.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it handles the practical side of Paris travel without sacrificing comfort. The four-star rating feels accurate — you’re getting reliable quality and service that lets you focus on enjoying the city rather than dealing with hotel issues. For pet owners, the policies here are refreshingly straightforward, and the nearby streets are perfect for dog walks (trust me, finding good dog-walking routes in central Paris can be tricky). The location score of 9.0 isn’t just marketing fluff — when you can walk to great restaurants, hop on multiple metro lines, and still get a good night’s sleep, that’s the kind of practical magic that makes a Paris trip actually work.

If you are travelling as a couple this hotel would be fine. The location is great, easy walking distance to two main train stations, which plenty of restaurant options nearby. This made exploring Paris extremely easy. The room was a good size, and if there were just the two of us the bed, while a tad hard, would be ok, and the shower was hot.

Clean. Good location not far from Gare du Nord and Gare de l’est. Great halal boulangerie round the corner.
Cleaning staff were lovely. Reception staff were great apart too.
Roel
The location is nearly unbeatable if you travel by train being within walking distance of both Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est. The rooms are quite modern given it is in downtown Paris, certainly much more modern than I expected.
