First Impressions
Walking into Pod 39 feels like stepping into what New York hotels should actually be — smart, efficient, and refreshingly honest about what they are. This three-star spot in Murray Hill doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that immediately tells you someone put real thought into maximizing every square foot.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what’s great about being on East 39th Street? You’re close enough to everything that matters without being stuck in the tourist chaos of Times Square. I mean, Grand Central is literally a few blocks away, which makes getting anywhere in the city ridiculously easy. The Murray Hill neighborhood has this nice residential feel — you’ll find actual New Yorkers grabbing coffee at the corner spots, not just people taking selfies. Couples seem to get this location especially well (they rate it 9.6), probably because you can actually have a conversation while walking down the street.
The Room Experience
Let’s be real about the room situation — these aren’t massive spaces, but they’re designed so cleverly that you won’t feel cramped. The pod concept actually works because everything has a purpose and a place. The beds are surprisingly comfortable, and there’s enough storage that you’re not living out of your suitcase on the floor. What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to fit in a proper workspace without making the whole room feel like an office.
Dining and Social Spaces
The rooftop restaurant is where this place really shines — and I don’t just mean because of the views (though those are pretty solid). It’s one of those spaces where you can grab a decent meal without feeling like you’re eating hotel food, if you know what I mean. The whole setup encourages you to actually hang out rather than just rush through dinner. There’s also this communal vibe throughout the hotel that makes solo travelers feel less… well, solo.
Why Pet Owners Choose Pod 39
Here’s something that surprised me — this place is genuinely pet-friendly, not just “we tolerate your dog” friendly. The staff actually seems to enjoy having furry guests around, and the location works perfectly for dog walks. Murray Hill has some nice tree-lined streets, and you’re close to several parks where your pet can stretch their legs. The room setup, while compact, gives you enough space to set up your pet’s essentials without everything feeling cluttered. Plus, the easy access to street level means you’re not dealing with endless elevator rides when nature calls. The fact that New York can be tough on pets makes finding a place like this — where they’re genuinely welcome — pretty special.
Pet friendly hotels line waterfront promenades, mountain villages, and city squares with water bowls at every corner.

The room size was ideal for a solo traveler, I stayed on the top floor (17th) so it was relatively quiet - as much as it gets in the heart of NYC. The housekeeping team is great, cleanliness was of a high standard. The location is amazing. Within walkind distance from everything, subway and bus stops. I felt safe in the neighborhood walking alone...

Check-in was efficient, the room was clean and well-furnished and the facilities in the hotel were perfect for tourists (i.e. water fountain, gym).

The location of this stay was great! A lot of sightseeing spots were on walking distance, the rooms were quiet (no noise from outside) and there was a great roof terrace (wich was very quiet in the mornings) so that was great way to start the day! Also the free coffee in the mornings was very nice wich we could also drink in the lovely lounge...

Location was very convenient. Close to Grand Central, good public transport access. And sufficient eateries and food stores around. Good location to explore Manhattan and New York.
