I'm a recurring guest at the hotel, and this time I was particularly happy with the treatment I got from the staff, specially Jose, at the reception, who went out of his way to make me feel comfortable, and the kind cleaning ladies. I'll always come back - if the price is affordable enough.

Cost: I choose DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown New York primarily for cost reasons, i.e. it fitted my budget for two rooms (one for 3 people and one for 2 people) that would be adjoining. This went a long way to making our trip work. Location: I've visited New York quite a few times and all locations have their pros and cons. The benefits of this downtown location were proximity (like 100 to 500 meters from hotel to subway entry) to a good range of subway stations and trains (1 at South Ferry, 4 and 5 and Bowling Green and R and Whitehall to name just a few) that we could then utilise to go elsewhere. This is really important after a long day out on your feet and walking - at that point easy subway access to your hotel is an absolute blessing. This location also gave us access to a reasonable range of eateries and it is obviously excellent for accessing downtown sites like the Statue (which helped us get there early so we made the first ferry and thus avoided the enormous queues that existed by 1100), the Bull, Trinity Church, World Trade Centre/One World and so on. Staff: Everyone of the half a dozen staff that I directly dealt with was effective in their role, helpful and pleasant to deal with. The best example was a staff member who dealt with a security issue we had. At 0530 one morning a youth persistently knocked on our bedroom door asking to come in to get an ice bucket so he could get some ice. Even though I was half a sleep, it was clear it was a scam or worse so I told the guy to go away (using more 'direct' language) and made sure the door was secured. I reported this to a lady at reception later that morning. She said she was aware of a security issue, she assured me that there is 24/7 security on and they had been trying to manage the breach when it happened, she profusely and genuinely apologised and offered me compensation, which I appreciated but declined as I was looking to report a problem not benefit from it.

Very near and easy access to multiple subway stations Neighbourhood is also quite nice for downtown Comfy bed, mini fridge which worked really well (most time hotel room fridges don't work well or not at all)

I liked the location which was great for weekend visits as it is quieter downtown at that time. It's almost more cost effective than some of the other NYC hotels. The rooms were clean too which I always come to expect with DoubleTree.
